The Tampere-based company’s facility, located in the historic Veturitallit area, forms part of the Defence Innovation Network Finland’s (DEFINE) Innovation Hub. It aims to give companies access to versatile testing environments for emerging innovations, particularly in the rapidly growing dual-use technology sector.

Europe’s defence sector is experiencing a historic surge, creating a pressing need for agile innovation and testing. That’s why it’s urgents to have agile innovation and testing capabilities for the defence sector too.

“The defence sector needs agile innovation and testing capabilities to quickly adopt new technologies. Our test centre helps companies develop technologies that enhance the security of Finland and our NATO allies,” says Toni Piispa, Millog’s Vice President, Authorities and Industry Business Unit, in the company release.

The centre is aimed primarily at startups and SMEs, including firms involved in DIANA – NATO’s Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic. Millog’s goal is to provide smaller companies with a low-barrier way to test their network solutions and software against defence-sector requirements, either independently or with expert support.

Remotely or on-site

According to Millog, testing can be conducted on-site in Millog’s server facilities or remotely, making it accessible both domestically and internationally. The platform is suitable for showcasing mature systems as well as for developing early-stage innovations, and allows integration with NATO partner networks.

The technical infrastructure supports virtual Linux and Windows server and workstation environments, Android-based mobile solutions, containerised systems, and the connection of external internet-linked devices and sensors.

In partnership with Häme University of Applied Sciences (HAMK), the centre also offers a GPU server environment for artificial intelligence computing, enabling the testing of AI-driven defence applications such as language models and autonomous agents.

Millog is a strategic partner to Finland’s Defence Forces, providing maintenance, lifecycle management, logistics and expert services for critical security environments. More details can be found at: millog.fi.
