Finnish construction firm YIT will build a second facility at atNorth’s FIN04 data centre campus in Kouvola, extending a partnership that saw the companies sign a €300m deal for an earlier phase of the same site just five weeks ago.

Finnish construction company YIT has agreed to build a new data centre facility, known as FIN04A1, for Nordic data centre operator atNorth in Myllykoski, Kouvola, according to an investor release published by YIT on 28 August. The two parties have agreed not to disclose the value of the contract.
YIT will act as main contractor, overseeing mechanical, electrical and plumbing works on the new facility, which forms part of atNorth’s existing FIN04 campus in the city, located roughly 125km northeast of Helsinki.
The announcement extends a relationship the two companies began in July, when YIT agreed to design and build a separate facility at the same campus in a contract worth approximately €300 million to YIT, according to the company’s release from 21 July.
That earlier project is expected to be completed by the end of 2027 and will form part of a campus with a planned total capacity of 430 megawatts, the release stated.
Unlike the July agreement, whose value was disclosed and set to be recorded in YIT’s order book, the companies have withheld financial details of the newer contract. YIT’s August release gave no explanation for the difference in disclosure.
“It is great to be part of its next phase,” said Aleksi Laine, executive vice president of YIT’s infrastructure segment, describing the FIN04 campus as one of Finland’s most significant data centre developments. He said YIT’s experience delivering “technically demanding projects” positioned it to meet the industry’s quality and security requirements.
The Kouvola project sits within a broader expansion of data centre capacity in Finland.
Market research firm Mordor Intelligence projects the country’s data centre production capacity will grow from 740 megawatts in 2025 to nearly 3,000 megawatts by 2030, a compound annual growth rate of just over 32%, according to figures cited by industry publication w.media.
Finland has positioned itself as an attractive location for large-scale data centre investment owing to its cold climate, which supports free-air cooling, along with multiple renewable energy sources and fiscal incentives that reduce operating costs. Rising demand for AI training and inference workloads, which benefit from higher rack densities, has accelerated interest in the region, according to industry reporting.
The decision not to disclose the value of the second FIN04A1 contract stands out against the transparency of the July agreement, where YIT specified both the contract value and its effect on the company’s order book. Without comparable figures, it is not possible to assess how the scale of this second facility compares with the first, or what proportion of the campus’s eventual 430-megawatt capacity it represents.
